Claim to Fame: Doctor, Church Father, and Bishop; Ostensibly a deacon, ordained to priesthood by Bishop Maximus of Jerusalem; Ran afoul of emperors Constantius and Valens, and was deposed by them/re-instated twice by their successors; First Council of Constantinople finally settled in his favor; Taught that sin is a consequence of freedom, not a natural conditon, and God's depth of forgiveness, which was rarely preached; His Catechetical Lectures are an early theological treasure
